Had to – कोई काम करना पड़ा

The structure “had to” is used when someone was required or compelled to do something in the past. It shows past obligation or necessity.

Structure:

• Subject + had to + V1 + object

 Examples:

1. हमें वहाँ जाना पड़ा। → We had to go there.

2. उसे झूठ बोलना पड़ा। → He had to tell a lie.

3. हमें वहाँ ठहरना पड़ा। → We had to stay there.

4. मुझे उसे भूलना पड़ा। → I had to forget him.

5. मुझे उसे माफ़ करना पड़ा। → I had to forgive him.

6. उसे मुझ पर विश्वास करना पड़ा। → He had to believe me.

7. हमें उसका इंतजार करना पड़ा। → We had to wait for him.

8. मुझे उससे सलाह लेनी पड़ी। → I had to consult him.

9. उसे नुकसान उठाना पड़ा। → He had to suffer a loss.

10. उन्हें सच बोलना पड़ा। → They had to tell the truth.

1. Negative Form:

   • Subject + did not + have to + V1
      Example:

   • I didn’t have to go there. (मुझे वहाँ नहीं जाना पड़ा।)

   • She didn’t have to wait. (उसे इंतजार नहीं करना पड़ा।)

2. Question Form:

   • Did + subject + have to + V1?
      Example:

   • Did you have to call him? (क्या तुम्हें उसे फोन करना पड़ा?)

   • Did they have to leave early? (क्या उन्हें जल्दी जाना पड़ा?)

3. Difference between “Had to” & “Must have”:

   • Had to = past necessity (compulsion).

   • Must have = assumption about the past.
      Example:

   • I had to finish homework. (ज़रूरी था, इसलिए करना पड़ा।)

   • He must have finished homework. (लगता है उसने पूरा कर लिया होगा।)
