2. Meaning and Use
We use was/were + going to/about to to talk about:

An intention or plan in the past that did not happen.

मैं तुमसे बात करने वाला था। → I was going to talk to you.

Something expected to happen in the past.

मैच शुरू होने वाला था। → The match was going to start.

Something that was about to happen (very soon).

मैं गिरने वाला था। → I was about to fall.

“Going to” → planned or intended action
“About to” → something that was on the point of happening (just going to happen)
